Shelby Bottoms Nature Center has several East Nashville-friendly events coming up, and the list is refreshingly normal in the best way. On Saturday, May 16, the calendar shows Naturalist Station: Cornelia Fort Airpark from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and Back Porch Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. On Wednesday, May 20, Symphony Storytime is listed from 10 to 10:30 a.m.
This is the family/useful-news lane we should run constantly: not everything has to be a restaurant opening, a zoning fight, or a parking discourse meteor. Sometimes the story is that the nature center has something free or low-lift to do, and someone with a child, a visitor, or a brain that needs trees will be grateful.
Shelby Bottoms is also one of the neighborhood's rare shared assets that longtime locals, newcomers, families, runners, bird people, and people avoiding their inbox can all agree on. Covering its calendar is not filler. It is local service journalism with fewer PDFs and more frogs.
Practical note: Metro Parks pages can change, and some programs may require registration even when the short event list does not say much. Check the nature center page or call before making promises to a small child, which remains one of society's highest-risk communications.
