The Road Part

The Friday reader-service item is simple: watch the road and check the curb.

WSMV reports the Nashville Department of Transportation warned drivers that rain may cause potholes to open up around the city. NDOT says it has filled more than 11,300 potholes since January 1, which is either a public works statistic or the city quietly admitting every commute has become a percussion instrument.

How To Report It

The fix path is still hubNashville or 311. Be specific.

Street name, cross street, lane if you can safely tell, and a photo if you can take one without becoming part of the story. The best pothole complaint is less poetry, more coordinates.

The Curb Part

The curb news is related in spirit: NDOT announced regular brush collection resumed Wednesday, May 20, after months of special Winter Storm Fern cleanup.

The scale was absurd. The department says crews collected more than 2.1 million cubic yards of storm vegetation debris, compared with about 87,000 cubic yards of vegetation collected during all of 2025.

Regular Rules Are Back

Now the regular rules are back. Set brush out before the scheduled start date for your area. Put leaves and grass clippings in biodegradable paper bags only.

Keep debris clear of fire hydrants, storm drains, ditches, alleys, sidewalks, bike lanes, and travel lanes. Large limbs have size limits. Trash carts are not where yard waste goes.
